Keith smiling 2.jpg (20704 bytes)On behalf of the students and staff of Macdonald Drive Junior High, I would like to welcome you to our school web site. The purpose of our web site, like all other publications of our school, is to support and enhance our public image and contribute to community relations.

Ours is a community school, committed to the principles of academic excellence, community partnerships and life-long learning. We take pride in our academic accomplishments and high standard of excellence. We strive for success for all students and provide a broad base program to address learner needs.

This site represents our first efforts at building a presence on the Internet. From this early effort, we plan, over the next few years, to develop a web site that emphasizes strong local content combined with excellent information about the school and pointers to the best educational resources on the World Wide Web.

Our school web site will:

  1. Introduce visitors to our school - its mission, its character, its look, its offerings to students, its successes, its challenges, its goals, its stance on new technologies and its overall spirit. The site will be truly interactive having forms and email features, which allow us to gather information and responses from our visitors.

  2. Point to excellent information on the larger Web - identifying the best resources the Web has to offer, those most likely to support the purpose, mission, curriculum and the kinds of investigations likely to be undertaken by the staff and students, supported by parents.

  3. Offer an opportunity for the publishing of student works to both a local and a global audience - whether that work is art, music, or writing. We can offer collections in the form of a gallery or create electronic publications and "zines" which are multimedia descendants of the school newspaper or literary magazine.

  4. Provide rich data locally collected on curriculum-related topics (such as school or local history), whether these collections take the form of data warehouses, virtual museums, virtual malls, virtual centres or virtual libraries.

We plan to start small and publish a few quality pages rather than a large quantity of partially complete pages and to add material gradually to maintain a site that remains both current and interesting.
